Rumpel-Tíjeles
There once was a miller who was poor, but he had a good daughter. Now it happened that he had to go talk to the king, and to stand as a significant person said:
- "I have a daughter that when spun linen, it turns to gold." -
The king said to the miller
- "This is an art which pleases me greatly. If your daughter is as clever as you say, bring her tomorrow to my palace, and then see that it does. "-
And when they reached the palace, the king took the girl to a room that was full of linen, gave her a spinning wheel and reel, and said:
- "Now get to work early tomorrow and if you have not turned this spinning and flax into gold, I will punish you." -
Then he locked the room and left alone. There she sat, and did not know what to do. I had no idea how to process the flax spinning and gold. And much distressed, and felt so miserable that she began to mourn.
But suddenly the door opened and in came a young man, who said:
- "Good morning, Miss milling, why are you crying so?" -
- "Ay!" - Said the girl, - "I have to spin flax into gold, and I do not know how to do that." -
- "What would you give me if I do it for you?" - Asked the dwarf.
- "My ribbon choker." - She said.
The man took the tie, sat in front of the wheel, and "roar .." "roar .." "roar ..." three times and the reel was full. Then put another, and "roar .." "roar .." "roar ..." three times and the second reel was full. And so it went until morning, when everything was spinning flax and reels full of gold. Just started the morning came the king, and saw the gold he was enthralled and amazed, but his heart became only more greedy. And took the miller's daughter to another room even bigger, and ordered him to spin everything in one night if he wanted to avoid punishment. The girl did not know how to be saved, and began to mourn, when the door opened again and the man appeared and said:
- "What would you give me if I become a gold thread and all that linen?" -
- "The ring on my finger" - she replied.
The dwarf took the ring and began to spin the wheel, and at dawn and had all the flax spinning and into glittering gold.
The king rejoiced beyond measure by what he saw, but felt he still did not have enough gold, and took the girl to an even larger room full also of linen, and said:
- "You have to work this well during the night, and if you succeed, make you my wife." -
- "I do not care who is the daughter of a miller" - he thought - "could not find a richer wife in the world." -
When she was alone, the dwarf came back a third time, saying:
- "What if I realize I'll work this time too?" -
- "Since I do not have anything to give." - Replied the girl.
- "Then promise me that if you become the queen, I will give your first child." - He said.
- "Who knows for this to happen!" - She thought.
Having no other option to overcome this problem, we promised the puck so he asked, and then once more he spun and turned flax into gold.
And when the king came in the morning, and found everything completed as requested, took her in marriage, and good miller's daughter became the queen.
A year later, she had a beautiful child, and he never recalled duende. But suddenly he came into the bedroom and said:
- "Now give me what was promised."
The Queen was horrified, and offered to the dwarf all the riches of the kingdom if he left with the child. But the goblin said:
- "No, something that is living is more dear to me than all the treasures of the world." -
Then the queen began to mourn and cry so bitterly that the dwarf took pity.
- "Well, I'll give you three days time" - he said - "if by that time you find out my name, you can keep the child." -
Thus, the queen spent the whole night thinking about all the names she had heard before, and sent a messenger to ask the entire kingdom, across the width and length, for all the names they had.
When next day came the magic, she began to mention "Melchor, Gaspar", "Baltazar" and everyone else she had learned, one after another. But each time the man answered:
- "That's not my name." -
On the second day she had asked in the neighborhood by the names of the people there, and she repeated the goblin the most curious and unknown names.
- "Perhaps your name is" Mecacorto "or" Ríoazul "or" Estrellablanca. "-
But he always answered:
- "That's not my name." -
On the third day the messenger returned he had sent and he said:
- "I have not been possible to find a new name, but when I went to a high mountain at the end of the forest where the fox and the rabbit say to each other goodnight, I saw a small house, in front of the house had a fire, and turning around the fire a ridiculous little man who hopped on one foot, singing:
- "Today I bake, tomorrow ferment
and the next child of mine will be Queen.
Já! I'm glad you never know
Rumpel-Tíjeles that will be their torment. "
You can imagine how happy the queen was when she heard the name! And when shortly after the man entered and asked:
- "Now Mrs. Queen, what's my name?" -
At first she asked
- "Is your name Conrad?" -
- "No." -
- "Is Peter?" -
- "No." -
- "It may then be Rumpel-Tíjeles!" - Shouted with enthusiasm.
- "It was the devil who told you! Was the devil who told you!" - Cried the goblin.
And in his anger stomping on the ground so hard that the entire right leg was buried, and then leaned rage so strong in the left leg he broke in two, instantly disappearing forever.
